Brian
Norkaitis has enjoyed being a local Southern California watercolor painter
for over the past 25 years. His paintings are done out on location in
the traditional plein-air style. His favorite subjects include rustic
coastal beach cottages, white picket fences and wildflowers, nostalgic porches,
weather-beaten barns and fishing boats, and those old wonderful California
missions.
Beyond
the local coastal areas of Newport, Crystal Cove, Laguna, and Avalon on Catalina
Island, he enjoys painting in the Carmel-Monterey area as well as San Simeon-Cambria.
He has also had the opportunity to paint on location in the coastal villages
of Maine, charming villages in the Provence area of southern France, and more
recently the Greek Islands.
His style
includes a strong use of color to create fresh exciting and spontaneous looking
paintings to take full advantage of the transparent nature of watercolor.
He is also had the privilege over the years to study under such well-known
watercolor artists as Tony Couch, Gerald Brommer, Scott Moore, Roger Folk,
Linda Doll, and Marilyn Simandle.
