Christine Hooker

Kirsten Anderson

Christine is a native of Newport Beach, California. She spent her childhood outdoors, in and around the water, surrounded by a beautiful environment and constant sunshine. She believes that her experience as a lifelong resident of the birthplace of the California plein air movement was a blessing as she grew up surrounded by and greatly influenced by the early California painters.

Chris has a long line of mariners in her family tree and coincidently, she worked as a navel draftsman and yacht interior designer throughout high school and college. Graduating with a BA in Interior Design, she worked many years in the interior and building industries, finally becoming a metalsmith. Having won many awards and scholarships for her art and jewelry, Chris knew that someday her post graduate art training would culminate in oil painting.

Having studied at the Art Students League of New York and with preeminent painting mentors of today and with an appreciation for the obstacles involved in direct painting from life, oil painting has become Christine's passion. She has won numerous awards for her oil paintings. Inspired by the Impressionists whose goal was to capture light and drama, the natural beauty in the moment, she translates the beauty of a still life or her surroundings onto her canvas. Her goal is to capture a look, a feeling and a bit of mystery that will resonate an emotional response with the viewer.
