Storm Case

Chuck Best

Storm Case, a native son of Laguna Beach, California, attended local schools and grew up enjoying the rocky coves and beaches of this small town. He is a graduate of the USC School of Architecture, and has been in the profession for over 50 years.

It was in a college watercolor class that he first experienced the excitement of transparent washes, the use of whites, and a spontaneous approach to painting.

His love of watercolor lay dormant for over 30 years, until the prompting of his family encouraged him to join a group of plein air painters. They met weekly, painting local scenes in much the same way as the early Laguna Beach artists who helped found this city as an art colony.

His spontaneous approach to capturing the light and the emotion of his subject becomes a personal diary of the beauty around us. Traveling with his palette and sketchbook, he often records personal notes on the back of his work.

He has attended many watercolor workshops in the U.S. and other countries, being privileged to study with Roger Armstrong, Lou Rizzolo, Frank Webb, Tony Van Hasselt, Hal Lambert and Judi Wagner.

Storm's paintings are in numerous private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Current work is on exhibit at Laguna North Gallery (949) 494-4324 and his studio (949) 494--7085.
